The winner’s trophy for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League was unveiled today by Lalit Modi in much fanfare. The trophy is apparently hand-made, and features diamond-encrusting. It has been designed by Orra, the diamond brand.
Oh, bugger. I’m just going to come out and say it: It looks silly. Looks like an India Map on a wooden board. It is probably something a 4th standard teacher would give a student who top-scored in geography. Its horrible. It certainly doesn’t look appealing, and the prominent DLF logo on top doesn’t help one bit.
And wait, it gets worse. The winning team isn’t going to get the trophy, but -get this- A REPLICA OF THE TROPHY!!! Now why the hell would you do that? It seems like some sponsor -probably DLF- paid for the trophy, but its too expensive with the silly diamonds to give away, so they’ll keep it for next year and give away a cheaper replica.
